Frustrated by the lack of suitable plots and high rental prices Paul and Blanka took advantage of the opportunities at Graven Hill
They decided to take matters into their own hands and create a cost-effective, eco-friendly home.
They built their house with hempcrete but this came with challenges, namely that the labour costs were more than they imagined. This required a significant amount of tolerance and patience from his family. However, the Graven Hill community spirit came to the fore with neighbours helping Paul and Blanka – and in return he helped them.
As Paul says, “it’s a cosy, friendly, positive community.”
